Class Templates

There are two ways to set up a class in the Kiln Fire app.

  1. ONE-TIME CLASSES: For a class offering that you probably won't offer again. Classes > Manage Classes > New button in top right
  2. REPEATING CLASSES: We call these Templates. These are classes that you offer over and over. Classes > Templates > New Template button

Class Templates (Repeating Classes)

If your studio offers the same type of class again and again, you will want to create a class template first. This way you will have all the settings saved, and you can simply create a class based on a template.

NAVIGATE TO: Classes > Templates > New Template

New Template

  • Name general information like name, price, location, etc. Upload photo for this repeating class.

Who Can See This Class: This setting is related to who can see this class in the Kiln Fire app.

  • Public means anyone can see this class.
  • Users means people who have a login to the Kiln Fire app will be able to see this class listed.
  • Members means people who are paying for a studio membership in the Kiln Fire app will be able to see this class listed.
  • Private means no one can see the class listed, but you can send out the class link to specific people.
  • Who Can Register: This setting is related to who can register for this class.
  • Public Class View
  • Class Size Limit: if you want to set a cap on total amount of registrations
  • Minimum and Maximum ages: if you want to set an age range for class (i.e. Teen classes)
  • Class Registration Form: You can use the default class registration form or you can create your own (Classes > Settings > Class Registration Forms)
  • Piece Pickup Type: If you are using Piece Pickups in Kiln Fire, you will want to create your piece pickup types (Pickups > Pickup Types > New Pickup Types). Once created there, that option will show up to select in Templates.
  • Max Attendees Per Registration: This allows people to register more people than just themselves. This might be helpful for a kids class, a couples class, or a class where groups of people are coming together.
  • Days Before Class Start to Open Registration / Hours Before Class Start To Close Registration: optional to set certain timeframes that repeat for registration opening and closing.
  • Typical Meeting Length (in Hours): This will make it simpler to create a class at a specific date and time and have it automatically fill in the end time for you.
  • Class Add-ons for Purchase: If you want registrants to be able to purchase anything for the class (extra clay, add a kid, etc), you can set this up in Classes > Settings > Class Addons > Create New Class Add-on. You can then click on the add-ons you want for this class.
  • Automatically Create Users: recommended for students to create Kiln Fire account as part of class registration to simpler piece tracking, communication, etc.
  • Use Own Class Details Email Message: Toggle ON to have a custom emil message for this class and input text or link you want people to see for this class. This message gets sent in both class registration emails as well as class reminder emails. Setting it here will override the studio wide setting in Studio > App Messages > Class Details Message for all classes that use this template.

Click on Save Class Template.

Now you can create a class from a template at a specific date and time.

NAVIGATE TO: Classes > Manage Classes > New

Under Class Template, choose the class template you want to use for this class.

Adding Classes using Templates

Class Meeting Date

In this field you can choose the date and beginning/ending time of the class. If you want the class to repeat over many weeks, click on Repeat Weekly. You can then choose how many more times you want this class to repeat. If it is a 4 week class, you would want the class to repeat 3 more times. If the date and time are not repeating weekly, you can choose add class meeting date to select a different date and time this class will meet.

You now have the ability to Override any things you want to change about the template you created but all of the fields have already been filled in for this class. Click on Save Class to create this class.
